Critical Reading Towards Critical Writing
It begins with stating what critical reading is then goes on to say how to be a critical reader. We should look for the thesis of the document then make judgments and assumptions about the context. Look for reasoning, examine evidence and make an evaluation of the document.
Defining Critical Thinking
It says that critical thinking intellectual discipline of analyzing, evaluating, applying, information gathered as a guide to a belief. It entails an examination of structures in thought. Critical thinking can be divided into 2 sections: set of information and belief from processing skills and habit of using those skills. Critical thinking varies according to the motive the person has for the thinking. Critical thinking is never a universal thing. Every person that does it, does it differently from everybody else. Using it is a life long act.
The problem with critical thinking is that everybody thinks that life depends on it. Everything we do is based on critical thinking. Most of our thinking is biased, prejudiced and other things like that. The definition of critical thinking is the mode of thinking in which the thinker improves there thinking by taking charge of the structures of thinking.
A well mannered critical thinker formulates clear questions, gathers relevant information to come up with good answers to the questions and testing them. Thinks open minded with other systems of thinking and communicates with others there answers.

Linda Flower”s Writing for an Audience
The introduction talks about Linda Flower then goes into where the piece was taken from and how we find common ground between the writer and reader. It says the first step is to close the gap between the reader and writer. The example she gives is a student that wants to go into the wilderness for spring break and the student is writing there parents about it, the parents have always live in NYC all there lives. Obviously there is a background difference. She also states that a good writer will pinpoint the differences and reduce them. Knowledge and attitudes are important because the writer needs to know what the readers know, then also how the react to stuff because of there attitudes.
Writing Guide: Audience
The article I found starts off by talking about the definition of audience. The definition is an audience is a group of readers who read certain pieces of writing. The writer should take what kind of audience they are writing to in consideration as they write. Then it goes on to talk about the types of audiences. It says that audiences can be very different or the same. It varies. Writers can determine there audience by who, level of information and context. The three types of audiences are lay audience, managerial audience and the experts. The lay audience needs nothing special and probably needs some background knowledge. They also expect more, like visuals and a lot of definitions. The managerial audience may have more knowledge then the lay audience about the subject. They need important things highlighted and pointed out so they can make a decision about the subject. The experts know the most about the subject. Language may be very specialized and technical. They are very demanding in what they need for presentations and such. It goes on to talk about academic audiences, non-academic audiences, audience invoked versus audience addressed, teachers as audience, developing audience awareness, analyzing an audience and writing for an audience.
